About the brand
Isamu Katayama grew up in Hiroshima around his father's motorcycles, which is where the leather started, moved to Tokyo in his early twenties to work for a leather bag maker, and founded BACKLASH in 1999. What sets the label apart is the order of operations: the leather is dyed after the garment is sewn, not before. Jackets and boots go into the dye as finished objects, often by Katayama's own hand, so they shrink and pucker along the seams and the colour marbles into the hide differently on every piece.

Care guide
Specialist leather clean only, for the leather collar, trims, patch and tab: no washing, no bleach, no iron, no ordinary dry cleaning. Steam the linen lightly from a distance if it needs relaxing, keeping heat off the leather, and air both pieces between wears. The crumple of the washed cloth is the finish.
