About the brand
Isamu Katayama grew up in Hiroshima around his father's motorcycles, which is where the leather started, moved to Tokyo in his early twenties to work for a leather bag maker, and founded BACKLASH in 1999. What sets the label apart is the order of operations: the leather is dyed after the garment is sewn, not before. Jackets and boots go into the dye as finished objects, often by Katayama's own hand, so they shrink and pucker along the seams and the colour marbles into the hide differently on every piece.

Care guide
Specialist leather clean only: do not wash, bleach, tumble dry or iron. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and let it dry away from heat. A printed finish can lift, so before conditioning test on a small hidden area first and let it dry, or take it to a professional leather cleaner. Hang on a broad hanger, out of direct light.
