About the brand
A Diciannoveventitre, written A1923, is the label of Simone Cecchetto, the footwear designer of Carpe Diem. When Carpe Diem closed in 2006 he went to Rick Owens and left almost immediately, finding it too avant-garde. The label he founded instead was first named Augusta, for his grandmother, now A1923: the A is Augusta, and 1923, spelled out in Italian, is the year she was born. It is built on wabi-sabi, the embrace of natural irregularity: every pair is made by hand in Italy, and sizes and models are usually marked in handwriting in place of printed labels.

Dry clean only - a machine wash will stress the scar stitches and the surface dye. The smoked colour is meant to break grey along wear lines, so let it. Steam lightly if the linen needs settling and store hung by the waist.
